You would think that we would be done with the bloody tune by now, but lots of other stuff going on (like getting all of Jon Whiddon's art online at Adventure and Whimsy) and finishing up design on 3 new instruments...2 electric violins and an electronic violin (which we probably will not be able to show you for a while, as we are doing the Patent thing with our collaborators). Anyway...thought that we were finished...we had a nice Rock Steady "finished product"...but somebody had to go and dig out the old UB-40 Greatest Hits CD. We decided that our Rock-Steady bass and drums (think Madness and, of course, the First Generation Ska bands) was a little too monotonous. Decided to do something with an overwhelming complex bass as lead instrument a la UB-40. Also added a sub-bass part while we were at it (you feel it more than hear it). Also decided to add a heavily-reverbed melodica intro. Considered doing the whole thing in D-minor...that is nixed for now. Imagine Soldiers Joy as a D-minor tune. Somebody did Turkey in the Straw as a minor key tune a few years ago and it was way cool. So...maybe tomorrow or the next day. Read more →
